Politicians' pay cut
We have been assured that the ministers will "take the lead" in the pay cuts
being implemented......
A worker who earns $2K a month will get an 14.1% pay cut if his employer CPF
contribution is cut from 20% to 10% and he does not get his 13th month AVC.
Business Times (Singapore) February 6, 1997
Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong now earns a monthly salary of $ 66,900 while
Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew gets $81,800. Mr Goh earns less because he had
declined to receive salary hikes which were passed in 1995 at his own urging
to attract private-sector talent into the cabinet.
If SM Lee is willing to provide 0.4% worth of leadership and accepts a 14.5%
paycut.....
His CPF would not be cut as he is already "maxed out at $2400/- month from us
(his employers).
His annual base salary would then have to be reduced by $142,300.
That would be enough to support a poor aged Singaporean citizen for another 66
years.......
And that is just from one old man............
The mind boggles......
The Straits Times (Singapore)
September 5, 1996
Under the public assistance scheme, Singaporeans who are unable to work
because of age, disability or circumstances, and who have no one to depend on,
will receive some money from the Government.
The amount ranges from $ 180 for a single-person household to $ 535 for a
family of one adult and three children.
