Software

There is really not too much software necessary to set up a MAME arcade machine. Here is a list of the software that I have on my PC:

MAME - Windows command line version 0.60
MAME Roms, Samples, Screenshots

  • I currently have around 1500 unique games, all available samples, and screenshots for every game.

I am not currently running a MAME front end, although most people with dedicated MAME arcade machines do... if I decide to go with one, it will either be ArcadeOS or ArcadeFX.

I am a huge fan of classic arcade games, but I also enjoy newer games. I have a few games that I really like playing on my arcade machine:

    Peter Jacobson's Golden Tee Golf
This game is just like the current bar versions - The graphics are great! MAME offers some early versions of this, but they are pretty crude. It has three courses, up to four players can play (match play or skins), and it interfaces with the trackball and two buttons. It only cost me $5 at Office Depot.

    EA Sports NHL 2002
I have always enjoyed EA Sports games, and this one is my favorite. The key to this game is that the keyboard controls can be user defined, so that they can be easily mapped to my arcade controls. The downside is that only on player can play on the keyboard, but I also have a gamepad connected to the PC, so two can easily play.
