Are BT Cellnet PAYG phones unlocked?
I myself have purchased the Nokia 3310 on BT Cellnet PAYG from the Carphone Warehouse and I can safely say that they come unlocked. I am however, unsure as to whether other BT Cellnet phones come unlocked or not. I have read post replies to this question which suggest they do. Another reply to this post is that only when the phones are new and just released. This would make sense in a number of ways, I got the 3310 when only BT Cellnet where doing it on PAYG so the competition on that phone was non-exisitent so they didn't bother locking them. It now seems that the batch of 3310's with SW ver 4.06 from the Carphone Warehouse are now locked.
I have a cable, what software do I need to update my phones software?
The simple answer to this is that you can't. Only Nokia service centers can update it for you. They use expensive equipment to connect your phone to which updates your software. You can buy this equipment but its around £3000 to £4000! For those in the UK, you may find this number useful:
0800 898397 - if you ring this number they will locate your nearest Nokia service center. The only other alternative is to take it to the Carphone Warehouse or where you bought the phone and they will send it off for you. When I enquired about this at the Carphone Warehouse they said it wouldn't cost me anything to do this.
My 3210/3310 isn't working with Datasuite, why?
These two phones are not 'Data Compatible' - now this doesn't mean you can't upload ringtones and logos to your phone but means that you can't transfer data from the phone like you can with the 5110, 7110 etc.
This site I believe has a dll file to download which allows you to use Datasuite with the 3210 but only for SMS purposes.
