The Second Battle of Pinehurst Fields
- Chapter Five -
Romans Victorious

And then whalop - it's all over!

It's my bound (turn), so I get to select where I want the combats to start. So I essentially go from left to right. Sarting with the Bd's, I first push back Mark's double ranked Wb (by getting a total greater than Marks, but less than twice as much), thus providing overlap support for the next Bd vs Wb. With one combat factor down due to the overlap (Wb factor 3 vs foot minus 1 due to the overlap compared to the Bd's factor 5 vs foot. May seem hugly unfair, but don't forget Wb can quick kill Bd), that Wb get's destroyed outright (my total doubles Mark's). This then gives the next Bd overlap support, and it's Wb opponent goes the same way. The end Bd only manages to recoil the last double ranked Wb.

But that then gives overlap support to it's Ax neigbour. The Ax, now free from it's own overlap, and now getting overlap support from the Bd, takes out it's opposing chariot. This in turn allows overlap support for it's Ax neighbour (vs Mark's general), who manages to force the general to recoil.

And that was it! Mark had lost four elements (three in the last turn) without inflicting loss on any of my troops.

Ok, to be fair, I was incredibley lucky with my Ax standing up to his chariot's the way they did. That just doesn't happen! And the Ps supporting the Bd thing was a bit of a mistake. Makes sense in DBM (when the opposing Wb more than double the # of Bd's that the Romans can muster), but it does give the Romans an unfair advantage at DBA scale.

Still, a good couple of games which did point out to me that DBA and DBM have some fundamental differences, and in some respects are quite different games which require a different approach for each.
