Nick's Nats!

How I did in the 1999 National Competitions

Well, ok then, since you asked!

I came 5th - out of 6 entrants in the 25mm competition!! Almost all Kiwi DBMer's play in 15mm (they havn't discovered the advantages of plastic yet!). Those who do play in 25mm are usually older players who have changed over to DBM from 6th and 7th edition WRG Ancient rules.

Ok, so I got one win, one draw, and three losses. I at least know where I went wrong with the draw (stayed mounted too long in front of bow's), and two of my losses (didn't take advantage of my opponents deployment error and had my blades double ranked against blades (EIR vs LIR) with one game, and essentially sitting around letting my blades get slowly shot to pieces by opposing bow, because I was afraid of exposing the right end of my blade line (which was ancored on a steep hill) to enemy knights (EIR vs Medieval Serbs). You may be able to pick up on a theme here. I havn't got much experience countering bow's.), but the third was just plain unlucky.

My Early Imperial Romans going up against Early Germans. I was fairly confident, until, after one round of equal adjusted dice scores when determining the invader, Stan becomes the agressor, invading in Winter. The battle started at 4 pm (once all the die rolls had been added up) - just as dusk was falling! We had a couple of bounds in the half light, and then played the rest of the game in the dark. I couldn't swap dice, and no one could move greater than 100 paces. So even when his cav flank collapsed to my cav, I wasn't able to rush my mounted into the flank of the Wb(S) who were taking their toll on my blades in the centre - to their eventual demise. Ah well, there you go! Moral of the story, don't fight Germans in the dark!
