what is unchanging about this country; our place in the South Pacific (the
Southern Cross), and our historical connections with Britain and the Treaty
of Waitangi (the Union Jack). The vivid blue represents the sea and sky, and
the freshness and honesty that we admire. 8. Continuity and
Stability
The flag is symbolic of
continuity. Throughout the many changes that have occurred over the
generations certain values have remained constant. The flag represents our
continued place in the Commonwealth; our respect for our shared history and
