Jarod is a Pretender. This means that he is able to become anyone he want's to be. When he was a young child he was stolen from his family and taken to a secret institution called "The Centre". Once there his abilities were exploited for "their" research. Jarod spent about 30 years in the Centre until, as a adult, he escaped. Since then he has committed himself to searching for his past and helping others in trouble. However Jarod is not alone in his quest . He has the help of his former psychiatrist, Sydney, among others, aiding him in finding his family. Jarod is always on the run from the Centre who are determined to bring him back at any cost. He had a brother called Kyle who was killed by Mr Lyle (Red Rock Jarod) and has a sister named Emily. Jarod finally found his father, Major Charles, at the end of Season 3 (Donoterase) and discovered the Centre plot to clone him, which had been successful. Major Charles was captured by The Centre but then rescued by Jarod. He and the clone managed to get away but Jarod was again in The Centre's clutches. After being tortured by Lyle he again managed to escape but again is separated from his family. In "Road Trip" he has a brief relationship with a young woman named Zoe who is dying of cancer but refuses treatment.

Sydney is a Centre psychiatrist and was in charge of the Pretender project. He plays the role of father, protector and confidant to Jarod. He is a vital member of the team attempting to bring Jarod back to the Centre but on some levels he seems to want Jarod to stay free. He often keeps in contact with Jarod, unbeknowest to the others, through email and phonecalls. He also aids Jarod in his search for information about his family. Sydney was blinded when his bomb exploded in SL27 in the season 2 cliffhanger but he regained his sight. He suffered from depression in "Spin Doctor" in Season 4 when Angelo's actions caused him to remember a young woman, Claudia, who was like a daughter to him and whom he believed was killed in a car accident when he was driving many years ago. It is discovered that she is not dead but hidden by The Centre's orders and they are reunited. Sydney also had a twin brother who died after spending many years in coma and we know that his family were victims of the Holocaust.

Miss Parker is in charge of the team out to capture Jarod and return him to the Centre.She has known Jarod since they were children and, like Jarod, is also searching for clues to her past and information about the "suicide" of her mother when she was a girl. Jarod, while searching for his own past, occasionally gives her clues which seem to lead to more questions than answers. Her relationship with her father, who is an important man at The Centre is troubled to say the least and her relationship with Sydney and Broots is nothing short of condescending, however in the Season 3 episode "Betrayal" Miss Parker reveals that she really does care about her collegues, Broots in particular. It has also been discovered that Miss Parker had a brother that even her father apparently didn't know about, thinking he had been born dead. Her brother is Mr Lyle. Miss Parker was seriously injured in "Donoterase pt 2" when when she was shot by a bullet meant for her father. When she recovers she discovers that her father has gone into hiding taking Brigitte with him. Miss Parker had a brief relationship with a man named Thomas Gates however he was killed by the Centre operative "Rumor" when it was decided that he was causing her to lose her focus. She swore that she would find the murderer and make them pay. It is a year to the day of his death in Season 4's "Till Death Do Us Part" when we find out that, unknown to her, Thomas was also Jarod's friend and Jarod is working just as fervently as she to discover the identity of his murderer. Miss Parker discovers that Brigitte is Rumor who she tracks down to an isolated hideaway. Brigitte appears to regret her actions in regard to Thomas and tells Miss Parker that the orders came from inside The Centre. Brigitte is in the middle of giving birth and Miss Parker assists. She is deprived of getting revenge for the death of Thomas however when Brigitte dies during childbirth.

Broots is the computer, tracking and electronics expert on the Jarod project. He works with Sydney and Miss Parker and uses his skills to track down Jarod. He often appears to be very nervous and is obviously intimidated by Miss Parker who often insults him. He is divorced from his gambler wife and has one daughter, Debbie. He has seen Jarod a few times and once went behind Miss Parker and Sydney's backs to help Jarod out. In "Betrayal" (Season 3) he is helped out of trouble by Jarod and it is revealed that Miss Parker does respect him to some extent, even though she would never admit it to him. He has a secret crush on her which somehow she knows about and is uncharacteristically nice when turning him down. He has had a few run in's with The Centre's new bad guy Mr Cox. One in "Till Death Do Us Part" where his hand was burned as Mr Cox attempted to get information out of him. In "Road Trip" it's is also discoved that when he was a boy he almost died of measles but pulled through with the help of his GI Joe.

Angelo is the resident empath at the Centre. His name was originally Timmy and he was brought to the Centre when he was a young boy. His identity was destroyed however when he was the subject of Dr Raines neuroshock experiments. It was briefly restored by Sydney but Angelo chose to save the life a young boy using his treatments and reverted to his previous state (Bloodlines pt 1 & 2). Angelo was brought in to help capture Jarod by Mr Raines but in actuality he has been helping Jarod. He is often seen in the air ducts of The Centre and his favourite snack is Cracker Jacks.

Mr Raines used to be a psychiatrist at the Centre and is today a mysterious high level operative. Mr Raines conducted his own experiments on children in sub-level 27 and created Angelo, Kyle and Dannie/Einnad. It is learned he also tested narcotics on Jarod when he was a teenager as well as on Sydney. Mr Raines was badly burned when his oxygen tank was hit by a bullet and exploded as he prepared to shoot Jarod. It has since been learned that the shot was fired by Sydney in an attempt to protect Jarod. Mr Raines was also attacked by one of his creations (Dannie/Einnad) in the Centre parking lot but was rescued by Miss Parker. It was discovered in "Once in Blue Moon" that he had a daughter called Annie who was murdered by Douglas Willard, who Jarod was instrumental in imprisoning. He was also involved in the experiment to clone Jarod. At the opening of the 4th season however he appears to have undergone a complete and total personality transformation, found God or maybe he just had his brain sucked out as he so loved to do to others.

Mr Parker is Miss Parker's father and Chairman of the Centre Council. His wife and Miss Parker's mother died in an apparent suicide. She was actually murdered though by who we do not know. It was originally thought that she was killed by Jarod's father (Bank). This is later proved to be untrue. He is a secretive man and not much is known about him. He has a distant relationship with his daughter and takes part in many top-secret projects. He remarried Brigitte, much to Miss Parkers disgust, who became pregnant. He went into hiding after Jarod's recapture and Miss Parker's shooting. Re-emerging from time to time to leave her cryptic messages. In "Till Death Do Us Part" his cold-hearted viciousness is re-affirmed when he turns up seconds after Brigitte's death and shows no sadness that Brigitte is dead or any interest in the sex of the baby. All he is interested in is what the baby represents - his legacy.

Mr Lyle aka "The Man Who Would Not Die", is somewhat of an enigma. He mysteriously turned up at the Centre and took over the Chairman's duties during Mr Parker's absence, (much to Miss Parker's displeasure), bringing with him a new cleaner named Brigitte. He got into strife with the Yakuza, a Japanese crime organisation, after a deal gone wrong and lost his thumb for his troubles. He was then shot by Miss Parker by request of her father and thought to be dead until he turned up again and took Jarod captive, attemping to redeem himself in the eyes of the Centre and therefore regain his former position. Jarod was rescued by his brother who then died when he was shot by Mr Lyle. Mr Lyle, who was also shot, managed to escape again, only to turn up at The Centre, no doubt as a result of Mr Parkers string pulling, when it was discovered that he is Miss Parker's twin brother. Mr Lyle is a fairly sick and twisted individual. It is revealed that he lures and murders Asian women in "Extreme" in season 4 although hints are dropped about this in the 3rd season and also in "Survival" when Miss Parker finds Jarod's strategically placed newspaper articles. In "Agent from Year Zero" we learn more about Mr Lyle's past and discover that he is not just evil but psychotic with a great deal in common with Hannibal Lecter.

Brigitte is what is known as a cleaner and was brought in especially to capture Jarod although she has less success than Miss Parker. She is a ruthless and dangerous woman and, as Miss Parker discovers, not all that she seems to be. She does however make to mistake of underestimating Jarod's abilities which leads to her downfall. She returns however and marries Mr Parker. Becoming pregnant by him. She dies during childbirth but not before admitting to being the one who murdered Miss Parker's boyfriend Thomas.

Kyle is Jarod's younger brother and a Pretender as well. It was believed that he had been released from the Centre, but he was really being kept by the evil Dr Raines as part of Raines secret experiments to create a sociopathic pretender. A killer devoid of morality. As an adult Kyle escaped from the Centre and was involved in the kidnapping of a woman. As a result he was imprisoned but escaped several years later, only to commit the same crime again. By then however, Jarod had discovered that he existed and set out to find him. When Kyle was captured by the Centre again Jarod helped him escape. Soon after though, Kyle was apparently killed in an explosion. When Jarod was captured by "The even eviler one" Mr Lyle, he was saved by his supposedly dead brother only to lose him again when he was killed for real by Mr Lyle, who subsequently escaped. Jarod and Kyle also have a sister named Emily.

Mr Cox is the newest bad guy at The Centre. Nothing much is known about him except that his father is a mortician and that he spent his childhood in a funeral home - something that he loved apparently. He seem's to know everything that is happening before anyone else. He may give Mr Lyle and Mr Raines a run for their money in the evil department, well, maybe not Lyle.

Ethan is Jarod and Miss Parker's recently discovered brother. He seems to share some kind of power with Miss Parker that allows them both to hear their mother's (Mrs Catherine Parkers) voice.

Major Charles is Jarod's long lost father. They were reunited in Donoterase as Jarod sought to discover what Project Gemini was.

Project Gemini is a boy and not just any boy but a clone of Jarod. He is discovered by Jarod and Major Charles and rescued.
