Marching Competitions / Exhibitions |
The Red Regiment went into the year with a challenging show. Trying to get the audience /judges not only to hear really quality music, but visually stimulating them as well. For a unit of this size, this is no small task. The show had challenges for the Boosters as well becuase of the extensive use of props in the show. However the Red Regiment not only accepted the challenge they, continued to refine their show throughout the season. The results were obvious. Straight Superior ratings in every section at every compeitition. From the moment of the unique salute by the Drum Major and Field Commander, the Red Regiment took you to the doors of The Cotton Club and invited you in for a rest. (see photos in Marching Show). At East Tennessee State University, they performed for the first time in a dome environment and realized very quickly that it is very different to play with different acoustics. They adjusted quickly as they received 3rd out of 10 bands in their class. A more significant accomplishment was they wre 2nd in Music and missed top honors by a margin of .01. This was the first major regional contest the group had performed in. The annual Cobb County Marching Exhibition was the springboard into the competitions. As the other bands watched, a collective sound of approval was yelled as the dipped salute was performed, they began to keep time to the music by clapping at times throughout the show, and the y instantly rose to their feet at the conclusion of the show. To have such a reaction from their peers was a highlight of the marching season for the entire Red Regiment. The reaction by the crowd in each venue was a benefit to the Red Regiment as the band could tell by the crowd's involvement in the show, they had accemplished their intent with this show. Duke Ellington, you would be proud of this rendition of your music. Thanks for giving America such a legacy. |
