MIXED FEELINGS
May 10, 2000
It’s been a while since I’ve written my last column. Particularly since I’ve had mixed feelings about what’s been happening lately.
First of all, Will getting seven years was certainly a shocking turn of events. Jason-Shane Scott did a marvelous job of portraying a man who had just been given an unjust sentence. I particularly like the scene when Will imagined himself brought to prison, and when Jessica came to see him and he had cried out for her to leave and to forget about him. I’m definitely hoping Jason-Shane Scott is at least nominated for an Emmy next year.
The recent train crash was also a work of genius, for the most part. I really congratulate the cast and crew for really making it look and feel like a tragedy had occurred.
The one thing I didn’t like about the crash was the fact that Nora was presumed dead, but yet we all know it’s inevitable she’s going to come back from the dead. How many times have we heard, “There’s no way they could have made it,” when in truth, the person comes back from the dead?
In soap opera land, the unwritten rule is a person never really dies unless we see their dead body. But even that isn’t a sure guarantee that they’re dead. Frankly, I’m just tired with all the “coming back from the dead.” Every soap has done it and it’s so played out which why it was such a disappointment to me when OLTL decided to do it after they were on such a great streak with Will’s storyline.
However, I will say that one of the best back from the dead stunts was pulled by Carlo Hesser, who we all know didn’t really die…
STORYLINES GONE SOUR
July 2, 2000
First of all, I’d just like to say how glad I am that Todd’s back. Second, I’d just like to know if anyone’s is as sick of the Blair/Max/Skye triangle as I am.
Blair and Skye fighting over Max is just plain stupid. I’ve never seen more immature behavior on a soap opera. Let’s move on from this, please!!
As for the storyline of the real Buchanan son, I thought that was pretty good plot. Most of OLTL’s storylines usually are. The problem, they drag it out and let play out in circles until all viewers want to do is fast forward through the entire show.
About the only storyline that hasn’t got me sick to my stomach is the potential triangle of Roseanne/Antonio/Sophia and perhaps Will, Jessica, and Cristian being on the run. But I have a feeling that’s about to run dry soon.
I really hope that OLTL drops the Blair/Skye/Max thing. The immature brat trio just needs to move on and find better things to do than play tricks on each other. Why don’t they pair up Skye and Max, then send them to Pine Valley, then pair up Blair with Todd? I’ve always been a Blair and Todd fan. Even after Blair became pregnant with Patrick’s child, I still hoped they’d find their way back to each other. Maybe it’s time for a second chance. Tea’s left Todd, and Max’s shacked up with Skye.
