Volunteering Opportunities

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation and its partner localities are seeking volunteers for the 14th Annual Clean the Bay Day, Saturday, June 1, 2002 from 9 a.m. – 12 Noon. It’s a great opportunity for individuals, families and groups to help clean up debris from waterways across Hampton Roads. Boaters, divers and landlubbers are welcome. National Youth Service Day is an opportunity to recruit the next generation of volunteers while promoting the benefits of youth service to the American public. VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads, the region's nonprofit resource center, coordinates local involvement in National Youth Service Day, which is sponsored nationally the Points of Light Foundation and the National Network of Volunteer Centers as well as Youth Service America. Hampton Roads youth ages 12 to 18 will be recruited to volunteer as part of National Youth Service Day, on Saturday, April 27, 2002 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fill out registration form--

April 27: National Youth Service Day – Camp Apasus Location: 8400 Granby Street, Norfolk Age: 12 to 18 years old. Project: Paint, clean, landscape and more to prepare this Girl Scout Day Camp for the season. Be part of a national event that will engage millions of youth volunteers on this day.
May 4 – Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia Location: 800 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk Age: Must be at least 14 years old to volunteer without an adult. Project: Package salvaged food that will be distributed to hungry people throughout South Hampton Roads.
May 11 – Portsmouth Humane Society Location: 2704 Frederick Blvd., Portsmouth Age: Must be at least 18 years old to volunteer without an adult. Project: Come paint, repair fences, landscape and more to help improve the facility at the Portsmouth Humane Society. Help also is needed to walk and wash the dogs.
May 18 – Hoffler Creek Wildlife Foundation Location: 4510 Twin Pines Road, Portsmouth Age: Must be at least 16 years old to volunteer without an adult. Project: Help maintain trails at this wildlife haven that promotes environmental education, research and recreation.
