Experienced ASIC, analog and mixed-signal circuit, embedded software, optical-networking designers and marketing superstars in demand
At the top of the list are chip designers, especially if they have at least five years' experience building application specific integrated circuits (ASIC). Companies don't typically let these people go because all high-end electronics systems -- from cellphones to Web servers to the set-top boxes for TVs that ATI plans to make -- rely on the expertise of ASIC designers. Not only are ASIC engineers in demand; they will continue to be so as companies rebound from the economic slump. In addition to ASIC designers, Cadieux is looking to hire some 50 people, including hardware developers with expertise in analog and mixed-signal circuit design, as well as specialists in embedded software. Not surprisingly, there is a feeding frenzy for world-class marketing experts -- people with the connections to generate sales leads. At Mitel Networks, which uses Internet technology to develop equipment for telephone networks, the marketing team not only survived the slowdown, it is expanding to a staff of five. The company has three marketing positions open, but according to Kathy Enright, head of human resources, the challenge is finding people with experience in the voice and data market. |
