Barnegat Lighthouse or "Old Barney" was constructed in
1835
and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It is
open to the public and there are 217 winding steps to the top of
this 165 foot tall lighthouse. This lighthouse
was used as a
lookout during WWI. Its original beehive shaped Fresnel lens is
in the Barnegat Lighthouse Museum. The lens is 6 feet in
diameter and 12 feet tall and contains 1,024 separate prisms
