Diary of a Vampire

REDEMPTION - Blood Bond
by ‘Storyteller’

Night 40 - Sunday
Video Footage

There is about twenty of them. All dressed in biker leathers and ripped jeans. All are drinking from jewelled bottles which clink against their enormous silver rings that adorn their hands. Handcuffs and studded leather arm bands, Sex Pistols shirts and Slayer shirts are all present. Some have shaved their heads and wear stylised silver bones through their noses. Studded dog collars and leashes are worn as fashion accessories as are mohawks capped with silver spikes. The scene is like some gathering of punks, bikers and sado masochists, all dancing around this massive bonfire.

Easily 2 stories high, the heat from the blaze keeps everyone back at least thirty feet. Every now and then someone moves closer to the blaze, encouraged by the chants and cajoles of the throng. They get close but the heat drives them back. Brawls break out between those who encouraged and those who failed, as encouragements give way to taunts and jeers.

A cry comes up from the assembled throng. A Vampire leaps towards Marie through the flames! His eyes red and fangs bared as he lands. He is shirtless and the crowed begin to chant a name. “NI-CO! NI-CO! NI-CO!” The Vampire raised his arms in victory and pumped them to the sound of his name. He half runs over to one of the groups and grabs a bottle of Jack Daniels. Striding towards the flames he takes a deep pull on the bottle and spits the contents on the fire, the flames race along the stream almost to his face. The chanting becames a deafening roar. Soon others began to take the lead of Nico, and are leaping through the flames. The victorious gather together on one side congratulating themselves.

The scene is disturbed by the Dixie land trumpet of a car horn. A convertible full of leather clad Vampires drives up in front of the bonfire. The Vampires careful to get out of the car on the opposite side to the blaze. The chant goes up again as the driver steps up on the bonnet of the car and pulled his jacket off. “MA-LA-CHI! MA-LA-CHI! MA-LA-CHI!” The new Vampire then bounds over the bonfire, and immediately jumps back over! He grabs a small branch and sets it alight. Taking the bottle of Jack Daniels he drinks from it and breaths out the fluid. The branch ignites it and the crowd squeal in delight at the macabre parody of a circus. Malachi then calls a hush to the crowd. Even the distorted music stops.

Malachi then places the flames over his bare chest. Howling in pain he sears his pale flesh. Marie sits on the ground watching. Malachi then extinguishes the flames with his mouth. The crescendo is fever pitch. Now he had their attention. He signals to the other Vampires who arrived with him. They run to the boot of the car and drag out three high school cheerleaders. Their outfits splattered with blood and grease. Terror is in their eyes as some of the other Vampires grab their pom-poms and parody their cheering routines.

Malachi indicats to a pit off to the side. Four Vampires stand their with six pit bull terriers. One by one the dogs are drained by their handlers and then given a small portion of blood back. The Ghoul dogs are then thrown into the pit. Marie sits and watches as the cheerleaders were dragged over to the pit. The Vampire cheerleaders are cheering all the way much to the sadistic delight of the gathering. The girls voices were hoarse from screaming and despite the hopelessness of it all, they continue to struggle. At the edge of the pit, they are roughly embraced. As they became conscious for the first time as Vampires they are cast down into the pit. The crowd goes berserk. The pit bull handlers quickly begin filling in the hole! Screams and yelps come from the pit as the Vampires, possessing preternatural speed, fill the hole quickly. Money was changing hands.

Marie is sitting on the ground as Malachi approaces her. Squatting down in front of her, he grabs her chin and raises her blood-tear stained face to his. Leaning in, her licks the blood from her face. Marie doesn’t fight him.

The Scene changes as though the cameraperson has moved.

Now Marie is in front of the blaze with the crowd cheering her on.

Marie took one step towards the fire, and stopped. She sat down and didn’t move. Then she went back to the back of the van with Malachi, sat down and waited.

Malachi goes back to the blaze. Five other Vampires join him and they all bite their wrists. They each pour blood into a ornate chalice. Once they have all poured some blood in, they lick their wounds and stand in a circle and join hands. Malachi stands in the middle. A hush falls over the crowd as Malachi moves to each Vampire and speaks softly, satisfied with the response, he allows the Vampire to drink a little from the chalice. Malachi moves around the entire group and each drink from the cup until finally Malachi himself drains the remainder. They then embrace each other warmly and kiss each other on their foreheads. A cheer rises up from the crowd again.

Once again the camera person has changed positions.

Malachi stands before Marie, they speak and then she gets back into the van and it leaves. Malachi waves goodbye to her.
