The GunslingerAuthor: Stephen KingSeries: Book I of The Dark Tower Pages: 232 Rating: 2/5 Read: Up to page 172. To tell you the truth, I've never finished this book. Of course, many people think this book is good. I'm only 16. Maybe I'm too young, or too ignorant of religion to understand it. Roland is the last gunslinger. What is a gunslinger? I'm not quite sure. Many things in this book are not explained. Maybe people are supposed to find out in the next books, as there are seven in all. Anyway, Roland is after a man in black. Who is this man? The devil. At least I think so. Westerns don't appeal to me. When I read the first page of this book, I thought of a western. So maybe it was. Just because it sounded western-y doesn't mean its not good. So I kept reading. And well, on page 172 of the book, I quit. It confused me and bored me. At times it was interesting. There was some sort of time warp involved. Roland meets a boy named Jake. They travel together to get to the mountains. When Jake is introduced, it really gets interesting. Then the third chapter came around, and these new characters popped up. They were people of Roland's childhood. My English teacher tells me "Life's too short to read a bad book." And well, I like to finish every book I start. But this time I wish to heed his advice. And I stopped. I'm glad I borrowed it from the library, because I'd have to read it if it was mine. Later I was told that the first book was horrible and worst of the whole series, but oh, well... Date: October 20, 2005 |
