The HobbitAuthor: J.R.R. TolkienSeries: Prelude of the Lord of the Rings Pages: 305 Rating: 5/5 Read: 2 This is a perfect book to read for people who are just getting into fantasy books, or starting to read the Lord of the Rings. I think its odd that not many LotR readers don't bother to read it, because it has many details and how Bilbo Baggins came to have to ring. I just love this book because the characters are so lovable and there is action and its just page-turning. Bilbo Baggins is just a hobbit who likes eating and hates traveling and adventures like any typical hobbit. However, he is from a strange family, the Took side had liked traveling and adventures. One day Gandalf the grey wizard knocked upon his door and Bilbo, not wanting to have anything to do with him, tries to politely make him go away by offering him tea the next day. The next day, thirteen dwarves arrived at his house: Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and Thorin, and then finally Gandalf. Gandalf explains that the thirteen dwarves were on a journey to retreive their stolen treasure from the great dragon Smaug and the dwalves needed a fourteenth member to ward bad luck. Gandalf chose Bilbo to go on this adventure, because Bilbo was a theif. Soon they start off on their adventure, though these are not in order, meeting goblins in the forest, and outsmarting them, and then going through dark forests, meeting wood elves and escaping from their grasp, bouncing down a cold river in barrels, and so much more. And when Bilbo outsmarted Golum, stealing the ring from him, and finally, when Bilbo sneaks into the cave and steals a gold cup when the great dragon Smaug was sleeping. There is just so much action in this book, and thats why I love it so much. Date: August 3, 2005 |
