The Invisible Man

Author: H.G. Wells
Pages: 99-255
Rating: 5/5
Read: 1

A strange man resembling a mummy rests up at an inn during the winter. He orders his room be locked and not bothered at all times, and his luggage and things be dropped off there as soon as they can. Only known as the "scientifical investigator" he was talked about in the town; some people suspected him to be a horrible deformed man, and others believed he was a escaped convict.

The invisible man was very interesting. At first he was a troubled man, worried about how to get out of his prediciment of invisibility. His new alignment twisted him, until he was able to steal and kill.

Finding one of his old univeristy colleages, he asks him to promise to help and not to tell anyone. Afterwards, he explains how he got into his situation, on discovering how light is reflected through objects, resulting in bleaching, which caused him to be invisible.

First testing it on a cat, which failed, he did it to himself, not realizing the cons. He began to scare people, but realized that he was cold, hungry, and had no shelter. He robbed someone's house and costumes, and traveled to the small town where he was right then.

Betrayal, fear, and a person's inner evil. I liked this book; it was nice and quick to read, and well, funny at times.

For instance, when the Invisible Man was in his room, and another man entered. The man saw an empty sleeve, of course because the Invisible Man's arm is unwrapped, but he asked why it was moving around upstraight. The Invisible man asked him what he saw, and he said nothing. Bringing the sleeve closer and closer, the Invisible man insisted the man look closer. Suddenly, the man felt his nose being nipped, and he ran as the Invisible man laughed.
