The War Of The Worlds

Author: H.G. Wells
Pages: 209
Rating: 5/5
Read: 1

Ooh, I absolutely loved this book. The narrator described all the events just perfectly with much detail but not too much to bore you. You can literally imagine the events that the narrator and his brother are going through, the massive panic, from seeing the Martians body and face to the black smoke and laser beams the Martians use to destroy whatever and whoever lies in their paths.

He (the narrator) and his family learn of the Martians landing, soaring from the sky like comets coming on Earth. So they travel to another town, one away from London, where the story takes place. The narrator had to borrow a cart to get there, and so he back alone to return it, where he only saw that most of the place was destroyed. He watched as the Martians destroyed and killed hundreds of soldiers, and he ran to his own house to hide.

There he let in another escaped soldier, who was as afraid as he was, and they stayed there in the house, watching the Martian's slow movements and yet horrible actions outside the window in clear view, though the Martians were miles away.

He tells of his escapes, all miracles, and also tells of what his brother was doing at the same time.

My favorite scene in the book was when he had barely escaped when the soldiers finally took down a Martian. He was lying, weak and dirty and burned on the ground, when a Martian towered over him, picked up its dead companion, and left. It was so wow.

This book attacks anyone's internal fear and panic. It really is a war. You really feel and fear traveling without food, energy, or time, and you can just imagine yourself with strangers trying to escape and get as far ahead than anyone else. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
