It all started with
batch ’75 that St. Michael’s Alumni Homecomings has
transformed into a new dimension by having each batch
celebrating their silver anniversary to host the homecoming.
Since then attendance grew and the mood became more
nostalgic and festive each year.
2005 was Batch 80’s
turn. After receiving the key of responsibility from batch
’79, we planned, formed committees, and conceptualize the
event thereafter. Monthly meetings followed suit at
different venues as batch members offered to host. The most
daunting task we faced was on how to raise funds but with
the cooperation and willingness of the group, we were able
to make it through. Though its disheartening to fail
convincing some batchmates, the act of reaching out to them
should be a great gesture of attachment.
There’s no better way
of thanking our Alma Mater by conducting a Free FBS and
Medical Clinic last December 10 at the school campus. The
mission reached a diverse segment of our community and to
give back something to the very foundation and the community
in general from which we owe of what we have become is a
humbling experience. (see previous posting).
Being the last graduate
of the MIC sisters under Sr. Genevieve St. Pierre has a
significant importance to us. Donning the school uniform not
only summon nostalgia but also it reverberates our sense of
school pride. It was hard convincing doing the feat for more
obvious reasons, nevertheless, we exuberantly cheer and
flaunt St. Michael and Her color…BLUE AND WHITE.
The program started
with a motorcade around town. The host took the lead by
riding on their respective cars according to class sections
namely, Diamond, Sapphire, Emerald and Ruby and followed by
other batches. A mass was celebrated thereafter by Fr.
Ferdinand Lariosa (batch 78). The kids of the 80’s performed
a doxology lead by Jadine Estimada while Atty. Maria
Victoria Caminero lead the National Anthem but the sound
resonated into great decibel when everybody raised their
voices clear as they sang the “Our Colors”. The welcome
address of Mr. Aquilino Bana, St. Michael’s Alumni
Association president was heartwarming but the greatest show
stealer was the “Pinoy Big Brother” production number of the
host batch in their school uniform which left an indelible
impact on everyone. Engr. Noel Bersabe, our class
valedictorian uttered no verbiage in introducing our guest
speaker for Hon. William “Butch” Ramirez, Chairman of the
Philippine Sports Commission made every Filipino proud for
making the country won the recently concluded Southeast
Asian Games (SEAG), but who can be more prouder having an
alumnus and kababayan with impeccable achievement than the
people of Padada.
It was Ruel Lovitos who
got the early bird award while Edmund Matas came with the
most complete uniform… White polo shirt and khaki pants with
his first year school ID signed by Sr. Lolita Villagracia,
MIC. The batch to watch is batch ’87 that came in full
force. Several items were given away through a raffle and
the most coveted prize was a 21” colored TV with rack
donated by Mr. Christopher Orcullo, CPA. Its raffling sent
heated excitement, as the first four picked unlucky winners
were not around anymore not until the fifth name was drawn
that the prize was grabbed by Elmira Lape of batch ‘87
The program ended with
the ceremonial hand over of the key of responsibility to
Batch ’81 which was represented by Pamela Hernadez,
Josephine Quinalayo, Leonor Razonable, Rosel Carvajal,
Josefe Momo Estimada and Inday Pracuelles. Good Luck Batch
’81 and see you all in December.
