National Park
Introduction:
The park spreads over an area of 1978 sq kilometres in
the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley 418 km
from the capital Kampala and takes approxmately 6 hours. Air
Charter services can be organised by Uganda Wildlife Scene
which land at Kasese Aero drome.
Attractions:
The park is a home to a variety wildlife including
elephants, lions, hippos, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, baboons
and birds all typical riverrine and savannah habitats and
the famous Kazinga Channel. In the Southern Parts is the
Ishasha sector with the tree climbing lions and the
Maramagambo forest, one of the largest surviving natural
forests in Uganda. The Northern part is traversed by the
equator and is dominated by the scenery of crater lakes with
lots of flamingos. There is a launch trip on the Kazinga
channel which joins Lake George to Lake Edward. There is
also a boat trip to the chimp sanctuary where you meet the
chimpazees.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Leave Kampala after breakfast and proceed to Mweya
Safari Lodge. Stop over for lunch at Lake View Hotel in
Mbarara. Proceed straight on to the park for a game drive.
Dinner and overnight at the prestigious Mweya Safari
Lodge.
Day 2 : Go for an early morning game drive before
returning for breakfast. Go for a launch trip on the famous
Kazinga Channel- connecting lakes George and Edward, lasting
2 hours. You should view numerous hippos, bufalloes and bird
species. Return to the lodge for lunch. Go again for yet
another game drive in the afternoon lasting until evening.
Dinner and overnight at the Mweya Safari Lodge.
Day 3: After an early breakfast proceed to Kyambura
gorges for chimpanzee tracking, carrying along a picnic
lunch. Leave the park to return to Kampala arriving in the
late evening.
