The Adventures of Paisley Blue

I so much needed to record some important information, even though I don't have as much time as I would like to record all the thoughts, impressions, and funny things that have happened.

Last weekend Mechanic and I decided the time had come, enough was enough, and we needed to get an apartment. He happened to notice a building in a really conveniently located area that had a "For Rent" sign. Later that day - whether it was Saturday or Sunday I do not recall - we drove by again. This time, I hopped out and wrote down the phone number.

Monday of this past week I called (today is Friday). At lunchtime we drove to this building on Capital Hill and looked at two of the vacant apartments. We fell in love with the second one. They call it a one-bedroom but it's really a studio. I filled out the application and called back two hours later. I was approved.

Wednesday I handed over the rent and the manager handed over the keys. The rest of that day and evening and all through the night until dawn we moved. Both rooms at the old place were emptied and consolidated into our new place.

For the first time in over two years I have a KITCHEN!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an unfurnished apartment and we have been living in furnished places all this time. So a trip to the nearest thrift store netted us two beds. The queen size is very firm so it's mine. The full size is a pillow top that Mechanic has fallen in love with... and so... he sleeps in one room and I sleep in another.

Opera is still with us but I have tried to break it to her gently that she's gotta move on. The new manager is being very lenient in allowing Mechanic to stay with me but she would not be so understanding about a third person in the apartment. When I signed the lease Wednesday, she was adamant about it being just the two of us, no more.

And now we're having great difficulties getting the phone turned on, but hopefully tomorrow night that will be a thing of the past. I can't believe the repairman is coming out on a Saturday but hey, if they'll do it, great!

Gotta run now...

I'm so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
