Day One--Drama

The drama we did in Ecuador was called Toymaker.    The Toymaker was God and He had a Son, Jesus.   Together they decided to make the world.   The play starts, of course, at Creation.   Adam, Eve, and the rest of the population are depicted as different dolls and toys.   The story shows the sin in the Garden of Eden and then how the toys are separated from their Maker.   The toys become broken and ruined by sin.   Then, amazingly, the Toymaker decides to send His own Son to save the toys and break the barrier between the toys and the Toymaker.   Jesus is born.   The toys, at first, love him for the miracles he does.   Soon, however, the devil turns their hearts against him and they crucify the Toymaker's gift to them, His Son.   I still remember the narration at this point in the drama.

The Toymaker's Son dies. Everything has failed. All is lost...Or is it?"

drama.jpg We all know the exciting end to this story!   The Son rose again conquering death and sin, breaking the barrier between the toys and their loving Creator.
To me, the most impacting part of the drama was the barrier between the Toymaker and the toys.   It was made up of people showing different aspects of sin.   Through the entire play, this barrier effectively separated the toys from the Toymaker.   It left a very strong impression in my life, reminding me of how desperately separated we were from God. It will be something I always remember.

The basic plan went like this:

  1. We found a park with lots of people in it (not hard to do!)
  2. We gathered together and prayed
  3. We picked a place for our stage and cleaned the garbage off the stage
  4. We began doing skits and other "weird" things to attract the crowds attention
  5. We did our drama
  6. A couple people gave their testimonies
  7. We went into the crowd, talking about the drama and what it meant to them

drama2.jpg On our drama day, we were able to do the drama three times. The drama itself is only twenty-two minutes long, but with all the added activities it took anywhere from one hour to two!

Did God work in the hearts of people that came to see the drama?   Oh, in mighty ways! Through our three dramas, over thirty people were saved!   I still stand in awe of what the Lord did.   I know it was not through me and my greatness.   It had nothing to do with my team's acting abilities.   It was God!

One of our FUAGNEM devotionals was about absolute obedience.   We studied Jesus' betrayal and death.   At the end, the question was asked, "Where will absolute, radical obedience to God lead you?"   It lead me to Ecuador.   It lead me to three different parks.   And, because of my obedience, and the obedience of the other thirty people on my team, thirty more people will be spending eternity with their Maker.

"Where will absolute, radical obedience to God lead you?"
