Hello everyone,
This Newsletter pays tributes to my father-in-law whose first death anniversary falls in March.
We have another new contributor in my brother, Gopalan. After reading my nostalgic September 2002 article 'I was not bored', he had been saying that he'd also write on his childhood memories. He has finally penned it under the title Agraharam Days. It is more about Kannan (Adyar) than himself and made me and Amritha laugh a lot. I'm sure everyone else will also enjoy it.
Kannan's article on his early years in Vellore was well-received, though Raghu strongly says that the post-independence children were neither brought up 'more liberally' nor did they learn English early. This sentiment was also echoed by Amritha and Santhanam. Kannan continues 'Early Days' with his life in Cheyyar under the title 'From Palar to Cheyyar'.
Prasad has come up with another excellent and a totally different piece- A Linked List Of Random Autobiographical Minutiae. It is an autobiographical list of 50 things about him. I hope we will have others (including me) following in his footsteps. Sudarshan has contributed two pieces as usual- one being Jokes, Quotes and Trivia and the other being Funny stories.
I hope someone has visited the Newsletter archives at www.oocities.org/pamrithaarchives, which is a comprehensive authorwise, subjectwise and monthwise archives. It includes everything that was published in the last 26 issues - all the articles, poems, games, photos and everything else.
The section 'FROM THE NET' continues to be devoted to cricket this time, as the World Cup has entered the next stage. This section contains Schedule for March 2003, Points Table, ODI Rankings as on 3rd March 2003, Details of all the 42 matches in the preliminary stage and an article about Mandira Bedi, who is an actress and the anchor-person for the World Cup for Sony Max, along with Charu Sharma.
I continue fun with image using Javascript and we have Fun with photo-IV this time, where you can make my image dance to some music. All the other usual features, viz. Crossword Clues (this time also from Sunday Hindu ), Brain Exercisers (including one designed by me) and Cryptoquip are there. Editor's Link at the bottom of this page has been expanded as Editor's Picks and includes a joke, cartoon and link that I liked for the month.
Enjoy the Newsletter, but do write on the Message Board.
The first feature, as usual, are the old photos. Both the photos this time feature my father-in-law. But this time both the photos are less than ten years old.

MY DIARY FOR FEBRUARY 2003 (from 3rd Feb. to 6th Mar.)
World Cup kept us mostly confined to the house. More on World Cup later.
Kannan is recovering well. Jaya akka is also better now, though her urea count keeps going up. The specialist says there is no worry as long as she is active and sticks to saltless and less-sugar diet, restricts the intake of fluids to 1 litre a day and is active. We dropped her in T. Nagar on 26th Feb.
Coming back to World Cup, my predictions , as most predictions was only 50 % correct. But both WI and S.Africa were knocked out by rain while England lost out due to politics. Nirmal Sarkar has, in today's (6th March) Hindu written about his top ten of the first stage of the World Cup. Here is my top ten events/images of the World Cup upto 4th March.
1. Sachin's six off Shoaib Akhtar and Sehwag's six off Waqar Younis.
2. Jonty Rhodes' injury and retirement.
3. Brian Lara's century against S.Africa.
4. Fireworks of Davison (BCCI should persuade this player to migrate to India !).
5. Symonds' century against Pakistan, when Australia was in trouble.
6. Stephen Fleming's brilliance which overshadowed a wonderful century by Herschelle Gibbs.
7. Nehra's bowling against England ( I'd also eat crow, ungarnished at that, as I was one of the many who felt he should have been dropped).
8. Collins Obuya's five for 24 against Sri Lanka.
9. Andy Bichel and Michael Bevan against England.
10. Md. Kaif's running out Nick Knight, a la Jonty.
Among the others who were considered for inclusion were Shane Warne's retiring hurt: Shoaib's throw: Vaaas's hat-trick and Pollock's grief. I really felt sorry that WI and S. Africa missed out.
Bye,
anbudan,

2nd February 2003
