Advanced Shell Box

Advanced Shell Box

I made these boxes as my Christmas boss boxes for Xmas of 97/98. It has a five piece lid with a spiral shell attached. Where the shell is attached, I left it exposed, so when the lid is open you can see inside the shell. Unfortunately I didn't foil the shell all the way around. Next time I will, because when I went to solder it, the shell had a wide gap which I had to fill with a piece of copper sheeting. Then I had to glue the whole thing down, though I probably would have done that anyway.

There's a little over an inch of space in the upper section of the box. Below is a drawer that pulls out. I used a piece of filigree as a handle. I soldered the filigree to the back of the drawer, being careful not to cover the design on top. So when you look down at the lid, the handle gives kind of a Victorian feel.

I used Kokomo for the glass. I used the back of the sheet, because it had more character. The inside has Spectrum's black in it, (I don't like using mirror much). The colors I chose are a little on the masculine side; usually there's the "girl factor" where projects done for women are done with pink. I used pink last time; with this project, however, I chose the swirling brown color to match the shells.
