This is my challenge project of last year. It is a multi-curved box; there are no straight sides. The first thing I designed was the lid and I had no idea what the base was going to look like until the lid was done. Originally, I was going to make the base sides straight but then decided to go for the curved look. I got to use my twin spin grinder on the lid to make perfect angle joints on the front and back of the heart.
In the front of the base you will see a little gem. It is my own dichro jewel in which I layered a piece of mirror, and put a piece of dichroic glass, then put a gem on top of that and foiled them together so no matter what angle you look at it, there always looks like there is a rainbow coming out of it. Plus, since there is mirror, if you are wearing a colored shirt, it will reflect back this color giving you a bit more color.
The inside is meant to look like rooms. Each divider and section has a door or window in it and you can actually following it around going into separate rooms. On both sides of the inner walls, are built-in planters. The base inside is made up of blue mirrored water glass to give it that island feel. On the next layer is a tray. Although you can't see it in the picture, there is a tray inside of it that is also heart-shaped which was very hard to fit in there because of its shape and the placement of the lid when it closes. The tray has little clear quarter inch cylinders in groups along the inside sides of the tray that make up the sides of the tray. Behind those cylinders is a piece of spectrum clear granite iridescent so that when you look at it from the front, it is a wavy illusion to symbolize pipes with water going through them. The tray center also has blue water glass to keep the water theme going.
Along the outside of the base is decorative soldering to hide a big mistake that I made. The mistake was there were quarter inch gaps between the edges when the lid closed. The whole box was my first attempt of making my own molds.
