I made this for a sick friend in the hospital. It has a lower 3" section and an upper 2" section for plants that doesn't really a lot of root space. There's a section in the back in the bottom section corner where I have a tiny rock garden. I always make a planter when someone is in the hospital, besides just being nice, there are other reasons why. For one thing it looks a lot nicer than anyone else brings into them. Another is the "giving a living plant" to someone, instead of making a sacrifice to the flower god. :)
