SKY CITY

The Window Edges

Sky City Lamp Sketch

Back to the Sky City Index Page

completed wall with edges

I made the walls faster then I thought I could make them. Though it felt like forever when I soldered it. The edges are there to give the windows a nice depth, to make it look like your looking into a room. The windows will go on the back of this part. The window edges are 3/8" deep.

This is a close up of the window edges.

Back of the main wall

This is what it looks like on the back of the wall. Originally I was going to put a red glass layer on the back. It was supposed to give the bricks a red look, as if the sunset was casting a color the bricks' surface. But I ran into a couple of problems:

  1. The glass would create a shadow on the window edges, undesirable.
  2. It would make the lamp heavier then it needs to be.
  3. I couldn't figure out the best way to apply the glass to the curved section of the curved walls. It would look stupid if I put it on those walls.

pieces for window edges

These are the pieces needed for the windows.

pile of 1/2 inch pieces of glass

Here we see how small the glass brick are. These pieces are 1/2" x 3/8", the smallest pieces were 3/8" x 3/8".

Total Time: 9 Hours 30 minutes
