If you want to make a jewelled calling card/border set, you will need Blade Pro,
(from http://www.flamingpear.com at around 50 US dollars)
and fancy edge dingbats, like borders or celtic frames.

It will be quite difficult to get a jewelled edge, without Blade Pro,
but you can design really nice cards by using the method below, and just selecting
edge colours of your choice, as I have shown on this page, using emboss filter in PSP
for edges, then colourize with stained glass for centre, and letter 'm' in Button Button
font for centre swirl, with dropped shadow added.

If you do not have any edge dingbats, go to THE DINGBAT PAGES at

http://dingbats.i-us.com/

and download a few,to a special folder on your hard drive.

(My own special downloaded fonts folder is called "bats")

Unzip dingbats from your special folder, into your main
Windows/fonts folder,(No more than 250 fonts in this folder at any one time.
Your computer will perform very slowly otherwise or crash) using WinZip,
from http://www.winzip.com

Close your computer down and retstart, if you have just installed new fonts.
(Windows reads fonts at startup only. If you fail to close down and restart,
you will not be able to use/see the font you have just installed!!)

Make a new image in PSP4.0 or 5.0, size 250 x 150, white background, and 16
million colours. Choose black as your text colour, and start putting in
the frame font of your choice,
(size around 65 on text panel) around the edges of your image.

You may have to use the rotate image/move method, to turn the fonts around,
to fit the corners of your card, depending on what dingbat you are using.

Your image should now look something like this. If you wish, save your image now
and/or convert it into a PSP tube.

Calling Card Basic Example

You can make lots of different designs from it at a later date. The border on this page, header above and two calling cards below were made with the same psp tube.
Look how different they are!!!

When you have a nice border,
click on middle, white background with magic wand, and choose invert. Your
black fancy border should now be highlighted.

Play around with settings on PSP5.0/Blade Pro, and see what you come up with.
If you get a setting you like, you can save it to your Blade Pro
Environments and Texture folder.(if you do not have Blade Pro, try using the

emboss, and then colourize method, with PSP)

When you have a nice jewelled border, click o.k. in Blade Pro and then
choose invert selection in PSP. You should now have the
white middle highlighted.

Start experimenting with what ever filters
you have(remembering that you have to be able to read whatever text you
require) or just a plain complimentary colour to your jewelled border.

When you have a suitable centre filling, click o.k. and then
choose select none
from your PSP menu, and File "save as...." whatever you wish.

It is best not to add text to middle of your new card,
until you have saved this image. You might want to have a different
message, depending on where/when or to whom you send it. By saving
the image, without adding any text for the moment, you
can also rotate it, 90 degrees right or left, and
then make a bordered backgound, to match your calling card. Just
place a nice jewel/shaped font into the middle, and add Blade Pro/PSP filter again.

You may have to crop the edges a little, so no joins are visible. If this is so,
make sure you save this image, using a different name, before you make your

border. Then add text and make a Header design, as I have on this page(See top)

There is a jewelled set example here - CLICK
and a jewelled card below mine.

This jewelled card I designed for my friend Sue's birthday,
using Blade Pro setting to edges and Alien Skins "Xenofex"
Constellation Filter for the red centre.
It uses the same black and white Calling Card image
as all other designs on this page.See the difference,
a totally new look depending on the filters used.
