The Price of Friendship

I offered something to you,
That you couldn't understand,
Nothing but a friendship,
When I reached out my hand.

I've given you no reason,
For the anger, you've displayed,
I've wanted only, friendship,
But, with you, I've been betrayed.

I've had all of the suffering,
That my tattered heart can bear,
I've only wished for friendship,
There was nothing more, to share.

This friendship, that I've offered you,
Was not because of lust,
It was merely, friendship,
A product, borne of trust.

There is no greater loss, my friend,
That ever will be known,
Than for the need of friendship,
Once had, but now, it's gone.
