Moorish Kiosk
Erected at the International Exhibition at Paris in 1867, it was bought by the railway baron Bethel Strousberg to be set up in the grounds of his castle at Zbirow, Bohemia. Ludwig acquired the kiosk for the park at Linderhof in 1876, after Strousberg's bankruptcy. Georg Dollmann partially redesigned the building to make it even more exotic.
The interior is an extravagant mass of stained glass, feathers, painted wood and even an enamel throne, all created to appear like an Arabian Nights fantasy.
The famous Peacock Throne was designed by Franz Seitz in 1877. Like much of Linderhof, the throne is an illusion. Although it appears to be made of porcelain, it is actually constructed of enamelled cast iron, with polished glass gems in the tail.
