Paris is a wonderful city. It is like no other city I know. I have provided three links on this page which take you to many highlights of Paris. Namely, those links are: Musée du Louvre, Les Champs Elysées and, Les Pages de Paris. I did not arbitrarily insert the first links I found. When I began to build this web site, I searched diligently for the best and most representative links to the French Internet. I wrote various companies informing them of my intent to use some of their material for my pages. I read carefully the disclaimers of the sites I visited. In the end, it was my decision, to make links to important informational services about Paris. "Les Pages de Paris" and "Les Champs Elysées" have so much information on their pages that it would take many days of nothing but scouring them to exhaust all of their contents. Paris was founded by the Parisii around 52 B.C. It occupies an area of approximately 41 square miles. The city's twenty arrondissements (districts) radiate from the center island outward in a clockwise spiral. The Rive Droite (right bank) and the Rive Gauche (left bank) were adopted as a simple way, when one faces downstream, of designating location within the city because of the manner in which the Seine River enters the city at the southeast corner and then arches north until it eventually leaves at the southwest corner. While Paris is not the largest city in the world, when regarding comparative populations, it is the most densely populated. Paris cannot be summarized easily. I have often fantasized about moving there. There is a certain attitude that is different about the European cities. Also, Paris, imparticularly...is a splendor to behold at night. The street lights are dimmed to simulate the lighting of the gas lamps that were present in the 1890's. The automobile headlights are a different color than the bright white which are used in America and they accentuate the atmosphere in the evening. There are cabarets galore and this is an experience that simply must not be ignored. In the Louvre one could spend years enjoying the art treasures and that is but the most famous of the museums there. So, don't delay! If you haven't visited this wonderful city...make your reservations now! |
