Moving into your cyberhouse at Geocities
This is a mystery to many people. The easiest way to move in
to your cyberspace is to create a simple Hyper Text Markup
Language program, abbreviated throughout the internet and its
associated literature as: HTML.
HTML is a very simple formatting language that allows you to enter
commands to your computer. These commands are not seen in the window of
your browser. They are much like the carriage return on a typewriter which
is a command issued by the user to the typewriter. Learn these commands first.
Type in:
Now you are ready to begin your first message to the world of cyberspace!
Postion your cursor between the
commands and click on it. It will start blinking. In between the BODY commands, type in a short message such as "Hi, world! It should now appear: Hi, world!Go to the top of the page where the small box is located named file name and type in this phrase, exactly as I have typed it: index.html
Now, scroll down to where you see SAVE and click on this button. Congratulations! You have now changed your web site announcment from: "{Your screen name} has not moved in yet", to: "Hi, world!" or whatever you decided to type there.
After you have finished this process you will need to give your page a title. When you have decided on a title, simply type it in between the two title tags. Save the page again and you are off to the races! I am sure that you have many questions about what you are doing, but this will get you started.
