Still Life
Still life,
Life without love
Is still life---
Rivers refuse to flow.
Sunsets are things
Only to look at,
Never to feel,
Never to know.
You stare at the sky at night
And a falling star
Is just like every other star,
And every other star
Is cold and white.
Still life,
Life without love
Is still life---
Willows no longer sway.
Your dreams are shadows
Of faded photographs---
Life wasn't meant to be lived this way.
Like a smile that's disregarded,
Like a spring that's now congealed,
Like a wheel that lies discarded
In a dry abandoned field,
Like a wish that's never granted,
Like a birthday spent alone,
Like a seed that stays unplanted
Beneath a heavy stone.
Still life,
Life without love
Is still life---
Rivers refuse to flow.
Sunsets are things
Only to look at,
Never to feel,
Never to know.
You stare at the sky at night
And a falling star
Is just like every other star
And every other star
Is cold and white.
Still life,
Life without love
Is still life---
Willows no longer sway.
Your dreams are shadows
Of faded photographs---
Life wasn't meant to be lived this way.
