Head to Head - Buffy Season Four vs Angel Season One

There was talk after the curtain came down on the 99/00 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it's newly spun off ANGEL. Talk about Buffy's ex vampire boyfriend's new show being better than it's parent show. Angel episodes were outshining Buffy;s and the removal of the Buffy and Angel relationship had weakened BtVS but made AtS (ANGEL: the Series) stronger.

Some people didn't like the main season four arc of the Initiative and Adam and the addition of Riley Finn and Tara as love interests of Buffy and Willow respectively.

A:tS was finding it's feet and landing on pretty flat ground with a more adult overtone and attracted a more mature audience at times. Crossovers between the two shows were well recieved and left most of us wanting more.

I would sit down between 8pm and 10pm to monopolize the TV and video remotes, watching BtVS and AtS, yelling at anyone who got in the way. And generally, I enjoyed the second hour a little more. I'm not sure if that's because I'm a huge David Boreanaz luster/fan and President of the We Love Cordelia Club or not.

My first reaction is that Angel's first season was on the whole better than Buffy's fourth. Overall, unlike some others, I thought the Buffy season was great. However, Angel tips it. It might go either way in the episode breakdown.

Final verdict. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Four = 9

ANGEL the Series Season One = 13

My original hypothesis was confirmed. In an episode by episode analysis, ANGEL beats B:tVS in the Season One to Season Four. As for Season Two A:tS vs Season Five BtVS, that's a completely different battle.
