Notes for Eugene Colistus JOHNSON
Written in a letter by Annie Belle Johnson Stone to Donna Joy Johnson on
December 15, 1996:
"Eugene Colistus was the oldest of six children. He graduated from
N. C. State College in 1903 and was offered an excellent job in
Pennsylvania with a railroad company. Trains were the thing in 1903.
His parents told him he was needed at home to run the farm and cotton gin
and provide for the family. I always felt he regretted not being able to
go into his degree. He felt his duty to provide for the family. Eugene
married Daisy Ferguson. They had four children. Eugene, Jr. died at 16
years of age, Harry 42, Albert 60 some.
During his life Eugene ran a sawmill, a cotton gin, garage and a
hardware and grocery store in Clinton."
