Murdoch Ferguson and his wife, Mary McDonald, married in Scotland and
emigrated about 1802. They settled about two miles south of the present
town of Cameron in Moore County, North Carolina, on the Carlton Matthews
homeplace. The McDonald cemetery where they are buried is between
Cameron and Vass. [Douglas F. Kelly with Caroline Switzer Kelly,

"A second Ferguson family which settled in Moore County was that of John
Ferguson. Whether or how he was related to Murdoch Ferguson, we do not
know at present, although according to Janet Neuville (in MacDonald
Family History, privately printed before 1993), these two families may
have emigrated together. Both had land grants joining John MacDonald on
Crain's Creek. John (son of Norman McDonald) is said to have been
related to Murdoch Ferguson's wife, Mary MacDonald Ferguson (affording to
Neuville). [Douglas F. Kelly with Caroline Switzer Kelly, Carolina
Scots, (1739 Publications, Dillon, SC, 1998), 237]
