nother year gone by and another Melbourne Cup was won, only this time it was won by a South Australian. I personally don't know much about racing, but I do always try to watch the Melbourne Cup each year as everyone says, "It's the race that stops the nation!" As most people have probably already seen the cup I still thought that it was worth writing about due to the winner. We as South Aussies should be proud as the mare Makybe Diva crossed the finish line in a blaze of glory. Makybe Diva is owned by Tony Santic, a tuna fisherman from renowned Port Lincoln and she was trained by David Hall.

This was a horse that no-one wanted to pay more than 5,000 guineas, so Tony Santic brought her back to Australia to race for himself. Well, it has well and truly paid off and I bet those people are kicking themselves now. Second place was won by another good mare, She's Archie who also ran a good race. Third place was won by Jardine's Lookout. We can't forget the little South Aussie girl than rode in the Melbourne Cup either. Hooray for Claire Lyndop, she rode a good race from a bad starting gate. At least she didn't come last. All in all the cup will always bee known as "The race that stops a nation!"
