A. Sensory Impairment and Autism - What have we learner? How can we help? This presentation outlines sensory experiences of individuals with autism/PDD. Information collected from over 30 people with autism will be highlighted. Differences in the perception of hearing, vision, touch, smell, taste, pain etc. will be identified and suggestions for accommodating these differences will be discussed.

B. Autism/PDD: Teaching Strategies for Home and School - This workshop describes the learning styles of individuals with Autism/PDD. A number of teaching strategies designed to help with learning problems and aid skill development will be outlined.

Lovaas Workshop for treatment of Autism and PDD

This is a three video, six hour workshop intended to teach families when and where to apply the techniques used in behaviour modification therapy for their children who have autism. Also will be of interest to those wanting to learn more about behaviour modification procedures to reduce or eliminate problem behaviours (extinction, redirection, time out, etc.), and techniques to teach delayed skills (shaping, modelling, chaining, prompting, etc.)

Not Alone

This video explores the grieving process a family goes through when their child is diagnosed with autism. Parents can learn to deal and work through their grief with the help of support groups and agencies that provide services to parents and their children. A range of families poignantly share their stories and tell us how they have learned to cope with their initial feelings of shock, disbelief, anger and guilt. Through their grieving process, they have learned to accept their child and work towards fulfilling their child's potential.

PECS: Picture Exchange Communication System

This video outlines the PECS. PECS is developed for preschool children with autism, but has been modified for use with all ages and different abilities. This video shows in a clear and practical way the steps of introducing a picture communication system using PEC strategies.
