In 1987 the FAP bought 6 EMB-312 Tucano brand new from EMBRAER which were put in service in the Escuadrón de Operaciones Aéreas Especiales (EOAE) (Moras) of the Grupo Aerotáctico (GAT).
The Tucanos have two hardpoints under each wing and can carry Mk.81/82 bombs, SBAT rocket pods, gun pods or fuel tanks.
On October 19, 1989 Lt. Juan Antonio Rojas and Lt. Blas Rodriguez die when the Tucano they piloted (1056) hit a parked Cessna in an inverted flight.
During a tactical exercise on Mars 5, 1995 Tucano 1054 hit the ground while being piloted by Cpt. William Sanchez with Edgar Kramer (son of the then Air Force CinC) on board. Both occupants die on the spot.
Four new Tucanos should soon be purchased from Brazil when budget allows.
