The Explorer Program

The Explorers are a group that goes into the workplace to experience a wide variety of different jobs. On this particular day they are learning what it is like to be in the U.S. Coast Guard and respond to search and rescue cases. Some explorers worked as watchstanders while others acted as boat crew on the 41' utility boat. The Vermont State Police also participated in the drill by pretending to be a boat disabled and on fire at Juniper Island. The explorers crewed the UTB as it responded to the accident and practised setting up the fire fighting system on the boat and putting out the fire. After the drill the explorers enjoyed a meal on the messdeck with the members of Station Burlington. Shown in the bottom picture is ET2 Mike Harrington who organised the agenda for the Explorer's visit to the station.
