Mountaineering

Lunca Bradului 2003
Lunca Bradului is a small mountain town, located some 60 km NE of Targu-Mures.
It is situated on what I call "the magic route". If you take the train from Targu-Mures to Gheorgheni, there are several travel opportunities on this route, and across the years we had the chance to explore them all.
The Zespezel peak, the Deda village, Stanceni and Stanceni-Neagra area, Pietrosu peak, Scaunul Domnului, Lunca Bradului and Salard, are all on this route. This route is also recommended if you want to visit Cheile Bicazului or Praid, via somewhere in Transylvania.
In Lunca Bradului and Salard, the Mures river flows between stiff cliffs that are also heavily afforested, as you will be able to see in the pictures.

These magical places are easily accesible (in my definition), as it only takes 20 minutes (twice for non-mountaineers) from the paved road to the cliff where many of the following pictures are taken.
If you really want to travel, you can visit Salard's Valley, eat berries from the clearings, or climb the Pietrosu Peak (2,300 m, for more experienced hikers only, 2-3 day trip).

Since the entire region of the Calimani mountains is so close, trips in places like Lunca Bradului, Salard, Stanceni, Stanceni-Neagra, Pietrosu, Zespezel or Scaunul Domnului can be frequent. Check out the Mountain Network for more pics in the future trips.
