Surgeon of the 88th OVI and acting Post Surgeon at Camp Chase. His wife Cordelia, who had traveled from her home in Delaware, OH to Camp Chase on horseback, was put in charge of her husband due to the amount of sickness in camp. After Dr. Longwell's death, Cordelia had become ill also and died four days later, on March 23, 1865.
