11, 2001 - - American Legion Pony Express Post 359 announced recipients of the
American Legion School Awards program today.
At
Benton High School on Wednesday, Tre Cooper and Amber Seevers were the award
winners. Becky McGuire and Scott Butts were given certificates of honorable
mention as the runners-up. At Central High School today, Kevin Frazer and Ami
Patel were the award winners. Karli Echterling and Ross Reule were given
certificates of honorable mention.
Lafayette
High School and Bishop LeBlond High School did not participate this year.
Mid-Buchanan High School will participate but has not yet released the names of their recipients to the public.
The
American Legion School Award is the highest honor the Legion gives to American
youth. The students of the graduating class and their instructors vote on who
will be the recipients of the award. One award is given to the gentleman and
lady chosen by the class with the runners-up receiving special mention. The
winners have demonstrated by action the highest ideals of citizenship and
service to others.
“Our
Post is very pleased to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the
students in this area with the American Legion School Award,” said Post
Americanism Chairman Jerome Goolsby.
