OCTOBER
25, 2001 - - American Legion Pony Express Post 359 announced a number of
projects designed to assist members of the National Guard and Reserve who are
called to active duty.
The
American Legion activated its Family Support Network to assist the families of
servicemembers left behind by deployments. “We will give any assistance within
our power to support those who go in harm’s way to protect our country,” said
Post Commander Bill Richards.
With
the outpouring of patriotism and support following the attack on America on
Sept. 11, Post 359 is ready to answer flag etiquette questions and provide
information and materials on how to properly display the U.S. Flag.
“We
are encouraging all citizens in Saint Joseph and Buchanan County to fly the
U.S. Flag for the duration of the war,” said Americanism Chairman Jerome
Goolsby.
The
Legion is also asking all levels of government, businesses, plants and
factories in the area to join them in offering salary continuation to offset
military pay for any employees who may be called to active duty in response to
the Attack on America.
“We
must not let our Guardsmen and Reservists lose one cent of their regular salary
when activated,” said Commander Richards. “It’s the least we as a nation can do
for those going in harm’s way on our behalf.”
