Issue 6 February 2007
Introduction
It does not seem that it is six months since the last Newsletter back in August. You will read in this Newsletter some of what has been happening with regard to the One Name Study, particularly progress with our DNA Project.
DNA Update
Test Results
We now have had five test results and you can find them on our DNA results page. The first column is for two identical results for Martin and I, both descended from Edward Hagger born about 1763 in Therfield. Then there is a
test result for somebody descended from Lavender Hagger born about 1767 in Therfield. Although the DNA test results for these two Therfield Hagger branches are very similar we have no documentation to prove the relationship.
The third column shows the results for an Epping branch of Hagger’s and even this branch only has two different marker results from the Edward branch. The final result shown is for a Hagger branch from Sheppey in Kent and this appears to have no recent connection to the other branches.
We are now waiting for results from someone descended from Thomas Hagger, the son of Edward Hagger (born about 1763 in Therfield). This result should match column one. Martin and I are descended from Henry, the son of Edward, and Thomas is another son of Edward.
Taking Part in the Project
We appreciate that the cost of DNA testing ($189) may be rather expensive for some folk to fund alone. Therefore, we have set up a Hagger DNA Project Fund and we are willing to subsidise a test for any male Hagger, particularly if they are from a branch for which we do not yet have any test results.
I must emphasise that to take part in the project testing you do need to be a male Hagger. If you are not able to take part in the testing you can support the project by making a donation to the project fund.
If you wish to take part in the project and fund your own test, or wish to donate to the Project Fund, please go to our page at DNA Heritage:
