Quakers

Thanks to some research by Martin Hagger we are starting to put together some information on Hagger Quakers.  We have started with the Stephen Hagger who died at Kingswood, Clothall, Hertfordshire in 1770; he was married to Hannah.  We believe they had eleven children between 1731 and 1747 probably born at Chishill or Buckland, Hertfordshire.  We have collected a good deal of information on this family, including 18 great grandchildren of Stephen and Hannah.  One of their great great grandchildren was called Thomas Neatby Hagger born 1782, Hertford; his parents were Joseph Hagger and Hannah Neatby.  If you think you have a connection to these Haggers, I would be delighted to hear from you.

DNA

In our Newsletter 5 back in 2006 we announced the launch of the Hagger DNA Project.  Take off has been slow.  However, we have now ten people tested and an eleventh on the way.  The results would suggest nine of those tested are related.  So if you are a male Hagger or know one why not arrange a test.

Newsletter 5 explains how easy it is to take part and provides a link so you can order your testing kit.  If you wish to take part or have a relative who is willing but cannot scrape together the funds for a test, we have a fund which can help, just email me.

One Name Study

The numerical size of a study certainly does not signify anything about the quality of the work.  However, our study continues to grow steadily.  We now have over 34,000 records in our database with many more records in the queue to be loaded.  It is taking longer to get data loaded, as we try to cross reference any new data to that which has already been entered.  We also have nearly 150 family trees in some form of construction, some of whom are interconnected.

Melbourn Haggers

Melbourn is a village in Cambridgeshire just seven miles north west of Therfield in Hertfordshire.  For many years the Hagger family based in the village traded as saddlers, harness makers and ironmongers.  In the 1901 census, Joseph Ellis Hagger born 1850 was still trading as a harness maker.  However, in 1929 his business was declared bankrupt and he died the following year.  If you believe you are connected to this family, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Guess who this is.  Do you have some Hagger photos that we could use in the Newsletter and or add to the Hagger archives.  If so please email them to me.
