TWO SPIRITED PEOPLE
There was a time when the two-spirited people were sacred people of the tribe.
They would have certain duties with in the family and community.
The two-spirited people were very spiritual and artistic. They were the medicine men and women.
They were highly regarded for their spiritual powers. They have the ability to have dreams and visions at anytime.
They were like the men who were like women.
Some native american communities, these people exist in great numbers.
They account to a large percentage of the community population.
Some even have many of their own children.
Long ago, they were the baby sitters.
They kept the homes safe while the men were at on a war or hunting party.
Some of the two-spirited women would hunt and wage war with the men.
In today society, these two-spirited people still exist.
In modern western teachings, they are the gay, bisexual and lesbian peoples.
These days, the sacredness and roles of these people have been forgotten.
No one teaches the old two-spirited teachings anymore.
People today rather rely on the teachings of modern day western philosophicies.
The modern day western thoughts have been brought to North America by the Europeans.
Many tribes have adopted these views and it affects community and family structures.
Alot of negativity follows the modern day two-spirited philosophies.
Many two-spirited people have been
targets for extreme negativity and violence caused by misunderstanding and lack of
knowledge of the historical sacredness of these peoples.
This negativity originates from members of the tribe and the members of the larger non-native american society.
It is taught that when some one or a group of people direct negativity to another, they are giving away that energy to that person.
Someone sending out negative energy or bad thoughts are actually getting weaker, because they are draining themselves.
Spending all their energy on negative things is not very smart.
Meanwhile that energy send out to another, it gets collected in that person. It makes the recipient of negative energy STRONGER.
It makes the sender WEAKER.
It is very WISE to only think good thoughts and send good energy to others.
It is also said that what ever energy or thought are sent out, that very person will receive those very same thoughts and energy in return.
It is very WISE to only send good thoughts and energy.
Energy is sometimes called 'life', or 'life force' or 'bematiziwin' or even 'your spirit'.
Just like an investment. One must send out good thoughts and energy. They will get it all back even alot more.
The treatment of the two-spirited is a sad state of affairs. But the two-spirited folk have been receiving this energy for some time now.
They are getting stronger and stronger. All that energy given to them by the other is coming back around.
The people who sent out these negative thoughts, energy and even the bad teachings are unfortunately getting weaker and weaker.
The Creator has made these people and they a bit more spiritually evolved than the rest of society.
I was taught by many elders to ALLOW people to make fun of me, hate me, send me violence, spread negative gossip about me .....
It is taught that when someone hurts you, emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally.... one will 'own' those very people.
One must say 'thank you' or in my language 'miigwetch' when one receives any kind of energy.
I have been allowing people to make fun of me for some time. I have been thankful for that energy and I am already collecting on that energy.
It is also taught to have pity on those who send shards of negativity your way.
They do not know that they are giving their very life essence away.
They may be convinced that they are superior but in actuality, it shows their inferiority and ignorance.
This analogy is transerrable to other things; like oppression of a people, an abusive relationship, destruction of the environment or even war.
They were like the women who were like men.
Just like any other person in the community, these people had a role.
They were respected and trained in their roles by the elders.
BECAUSE payday is coming and they ALL be paying for their actions and thoughts. I am instructed to collect this energy and I will become STRONGER.
The people who send negative energy towards me, will get that energy back and alot more. They will get WEAKER.
