LEAD SINGERS

Petra's history spans the time of 29 years and counting.

The original band members have all left and the different

styles between Petra's lead singers are distinctly different,

but the fact still remains that Petra is a great band with more

talent then most groups half their age.

In Petra's first two albums there were no specified lead vocalists. Greg X. Volz was actually listed as an additional vocalist in the first two albums, "PETRA" and "COME AND JOIN US."
Greg X. Volz		Volz appeared in Petra's first two albums singing  as an additional vocalist. He went on to continue with the band until 1986 when John Schlitt went on to carry the band.. His last album with Petra was "CAPTURED IN TIME IN SPACE" though there were several other albums that did re-makes on many of the songs that Volz sang for. Albums such as "ROCK BLOCK" and "THE EARLY YEARS."  Greg X. Volz was widely recognized for his incredible vocal range. It was said that he reach notes higher than the highest note on the piano.
John  Schlitt		John Schlitt is the  latest lead singer of the legendary Petra. He joined up with the band in 1986. His début album with Petra was "BACK TO THE STREET." Following that, Petra's "THIS MEANS WAR" hit the music world and became a huge hit. The title song is still widely recognized by people of all beliefs.  Having just recently heard Petra live at SonShine over the summer, I can say that  Schlitt brings an astounding amount of energy to the stage and the audience. I have never seen a band with so much energy and enthusiasm and believe me! It's contagious!
