Easter

That is the greatest Romanian holiday of spring. The hearts of Romanians are full of hope and joy looking forward to this. They happily clean the houses and even they make new closes for themselves to put them on Easter Day. The children help their parents, waiting for presents from Easter bunny.

Reddening and painting eggs for Easter is a great joy especially for women. They combine some kind of artistic skills. During the Passion Week, the ancient people believed that time and space died and were born every year, together with the adored divinity. Nowadays children are happy to have eggs painted in yellow, blue or green, also decorated with fun drawings. The eggs are dried and put in a ceramic plate, after they have been boiled.

The Romanian traditional foods for Easter are "pasca", "cozonacul" and some dishes of lamb. The people go to the church and light a candle in the midnight of Easter. All of them come home keeping the lit candle. It is said that the candle is lit whenever there is thunder and lighting outside and this will keep away from people.
