Settled in a small town in the heart of Transylvania, part of Romania, the high school was founded in 1966. Its name comes from a representative figure in the history of Transylvania, Alexandru Papiu Ilarian, who fought for the rights of the Transylvanian people in the 19th century. The school has over 1000 students, aged 11 to 18 years old, shared in classes with different specialties, like: informatics, chemistry-biology, sports, English and French intensive teaching. The process of learning takes places in more than 30 classrooms and a lot of laboratories: biology, chemistry, math, history, geography, foreign languages and a modern informatics one, connected to Internet. The students in our school are interested in communicating with students from different countries on varied subjects we shall soon be an I*EARN school and we are eager to take part in I*EARN projects. The sport classes are training the students in the following types of sports: basketball (girls), volleyball (boys), football (boys) and athletics (both girls and boys), having very good results, some of the teams being on top of the junior national championship. The school has three gymnastics halls
and two sport grounds where the students are trained by very good coaches.
