Welcome to the students at
Escuela Second Unit Botijas Number 1, Orocovis
Puerto Rico
Teacher coordinator: Lourdes Latorre Alvarado
Dear friends,
Hi!

Our introduction is a little late but we hope that our joining the group will be of joy to the other groups as it is for us. We are a group of 4th graders a total of 25, 14 girls and 11 boys. Our teacher is Mrs. Latorre.  We are all nine years old except for Marciano who just celebrated his 10th birthday. We enjoy playing playstation, Gameboy, watching Pokemon and playing tag. We are very happy to be part of this international math group.

We are from Orocovis, Puerto Rico. Orocovis is located at the very center of the island of Puerto Rico.  The island's size is 35 miles wide by 100 miles long.  It is a small but a very beautiful island.  Its location is longitude 65W, latitude 18N more or less. The population of Orocovis is approximately 21,158(according to the 1990 census).  It is a small town.  It has an extension of 164.5 km.  Our town has only 3 main supermarkets but many mini-markets.  We have about 12 clothes stores and 2 shoe stores.

Our school has 450 students approximately from kindergarten to 9th grade.  We have the regular 5 classes Spanish, English, Math, Science and Social Studies. In addition to these classes we have: from Kindergarten to third grade we have the Bellas Artes Class: music, art, dance, and theater; from 4th to 6th grade we have physical education and in 7th to 9th grade we have Vocational Agriculture FFA (Future Farmers of America) and Home Economics and also physical education.
We will be having computers soon.

We will finding out how math is used in our everyday lives for example: time, recipes, spending and saving money, distances traveled, etc.

We will be sending our class picture soon and names.  Hasta pronto!

Your friends,
4th grade group 1 (there are 2 4th grade groups)
